The Role
This role includes working in a team of multi-skilled Engineers responsible for the efficiency, development and progress of the plant and machinery in the business through carrying out planned and reactive maintenance to woodworking, packaging and painting machinery and associated ancillary equipment to improve and maintain availability, reliability and performance.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities: The duties will also include the following:
- The decommissioning, installation, testing, evaluation, modifying and re-testing of machinery and equipment.
- Ensuring all projects meet electrical and safety regulations.
- Assisting in planning, recording and carrying out of preventive maintenance.
- Keeps equipment operational by following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting repair service.
- Ability to design solutions and improvements - develops maunfacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment; soliciting observations and feedback from operators.
- The maintenance and repair of site services equipment.
- Responding to breakdowns to ensure minimal disruption to production.
- Regular inspections of machines and equipment.
- The input of data into the computerised maintenance management system.
- The procurement of machine spares and engineering consumables.
- Provide assistance to other members of the team when required.
- Carry out general building maintenance activities
- Checking and calibrating instruments to make sure they are accurate.
- Assisting with health and safety requirements, such as conducting inspections, carrying out fire alarm testing, record keeping etc.
- Any other duties as may be required.

Within own department
- All members of the team must communicate and co-operate with each other and work together to provide the best possible service to our customers.
Across other depertments
- The work carried out by the maintenance department can have an effect on all of the other departments - before such work is undertaken, Engineers must make every effort to minimise the impact on the business.
External suppliers
- Engineers are required to communicate and work with suppliers, and machine manufacturers for technical advice, the procurement of spares, materials and engineering consumables. This will be by telephone or email and may require photographs to be taken and emailed.
External customers
- Engineers will be required to assist contractors, service engineers and service providers to enable them to carry out their work. This could include helping them with the work, explaining the problem they have come to resolve, showing them around the factory or providing information.
Internal customers
- Every person outside the maintenance department is a potential customer and at sometime may require support.
Essential:
- Successful completion of a full electrical or multi-skilled apprenticeship/and/or attainment of an appropriate electrical or multi skilled engineering qualification. i.e. BTEC ONC/OND or above.
- The applicant will have relevant experience in a similar electrical role in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience of working on modern wood working machinery.
- Experience of working on modern CNC equipment and fault finding.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Good communication skills and be capable of working alone and as part of a team.
- Basic mechanical skills and be capable of working alone and fault-finding.
- An understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems and fault-finding.
- Good analytical and problem solving capabilities.
- Self motivated and able to use own initiative.
- Good understanding of health and safety.
- Must be prepared to work at heights.
- Must be able to carry out physically demanding tasks.
- PC literate, able to use Word, Excel and Outlook.
Desirable:
- Mobile Elevating Working Platform Certification or be willing to train.
- Fabrication and machining.
- Experience working with modern Homag woodworking and Cefla painting machinery.
Other:
- Must be prepared to work outside normal working hours up to midnight and at weekends in order to allow repair or maintenance work to be carried out.
- Must be prepared to be called out on a rotational basis and must be ablee to travel to site at any time.
- Will be required to work shifts.
- Must be willing to attend training courses as required, which may be abroad.
